The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) collected $249, 954,412 in owed wages during fiscal 2013, which runs through September 30, 2013. DOL’s enforcement efforts helped around 269,000 workers recover wages improperly denied them under the Fair Labor Standards Act and other U.S. laws, announced the DOL in its December 12, 2013 newsletter. “Employers who commit minimum wage, overtime and other wage violations deny workers their full hard-earned income, and we are committed to ensuring that the money is in the hands of those who worked for it,” says Laura Fortman, principal deputy administrator for the Wage and Hour Division of the DOL. The DOL protects workers under a range of laws, including minimum wage and overtime rights under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The DOL has a short guide online, here.
