The Maryland minimum wage rate increases from $9.25 per hour of work to $10.10 starting on July 1, 2018.
The minimum wage for workers in Montgomery County will go up even higher, increasing to $12.25 an hour for employers with 51 or more employees and $12 an hour for employers with 50 employees or less, both commencing on July 1.
In the District of Columbia, the minimum wage increases to $13.25 an hour, also effective on July 1.
Laws provide for penalty damages against employers who cheat their workers out of proper wages and also cover attorney's fees. Therefore, a worker can actually recover two to three times the amount of owed wages -- and attorney fees, as well.
